Raducanu Cruises into Wimbledon Third Round
British Star Cherishes Grand Slam Debut Triumph
LONDON, July 3 (Reuters) - Emma Raducanu, the British number one, made a winning start to her Wimbledon debut on Wednesday, cruising into the third round with a 6-1 6-2 victory over Tamara Korpatsch.
Raducanu, who has more reason than most to embrace the occasion, said she cherished every moment of the experience. The 19-year-old is the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships.
In front of a rapturous crowd on Court 18, Raducanu displayed her full range of talents, hitting crisp groundstrokes and serving with venom. She broke Korpatsch's serve four times in the opening set and raced through the second to set up a clash with Caroline Garcia in the next round.
