Omaha Beach stands as the second beach from the west among the five designated landing areas of the iconic Normandy Invasion. On June 6, 1944, D-Day, units of the Allied forces stormed the shores of Omaha Beach, a critical part of the massive amphibious assault that aimed to liberate Nazi-occupied France.
Geography and Divisions
Spanning 4 miles (6.4 km) from Port-en-Bessin to Vierville-sur-Mer, Omaha Beach was divided into eight operational sectors. Each sector faced unique challenges and encountered varying degrees of German resistance.
